Will new US administration abandon Ukraine: Trump gives an answer
The newly elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated that he wants to reach agreements regarding the situation in Ukraine, he made this statement in an interview with TIME.
During the interview, Trump was asked the following question: "So the question people want to know is: 'Would you abandon Ukraine?'"
"I want to reach an agreement, and the only way you're going to reach an agreement is not to abandon," he replied.
Trump believes that if he had been president earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin would never have invaded Ukraine.
"It should have never happened. Putin would have never invaded Ukraine if I were president for numerous reasons. Number one, they drove up the oil price. When they drove up the oil price, they made it a profit-making situation for him, the oil price should have been driven down," Trump said.
In his opinion, if the price of oil had been reduced, Russia would not have had the economic motivation for an invasion. Trump states that when oil was priced between 80 and 90 dollars per barrel, Putin was able to make a lot of money for the invasion.
"I'm not saying it's a good thing, because he's also suffered, but they are moving forward. You know, this is a war that's been — this is a tragedy. This is death that's far greater than anyone knows. When the real numbers come out, you're going to see numbers that you're not going to believe," he emphasized.
Issue of ending the full-scale war
During his election campaign, Donald Trump claimed that he could end the war between Russia and Ukraine within 24 hours.
Recently, a meeting took place in Paris with the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Donald Trump, which lasted for 35 minutes.
During the dialogue, Trump stated that he wants an immediate ceasefire and discussions regarding the end of the war.
