Polish President Karol Nawrocki was not invited to the Ukraine Recovery Conference, which will take place in Gdańsk. The reason lies in domestic politics, stated Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhii Tykhyi.

Tykhyi said the conference was taking place under very unfavorable circumstances due to tensions between Poland and Ukraine.

According to him, Nawrocki complained to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that he had not been invited to the event.

"This is Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s event. Once again, we see the political dimension that currently exists in Poland," Tykhyi said.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman also emphasized that this year’s conference will focus on security and defense. The discussions will go beyond just allocating funds and loans for reconstruction, focusing instead on how to protect Ukraine so that fewer facilities need to be rebuilt in the future.

The Ukraine Recovery Conference is scheduled to take place on June 25–26.

Ukraine-Poland dispute

The Polish authorities reacted sharply to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's decision to grant an honorary title named after the Heroes of the UPA (Ukrainian Insurgent Army) to a Special Operations Forces unit.

In particular, last week, Polish President Karol Nawrocki stripped Zelenskyy of the Order of the White Eagle.

In response, the Ukrainian President said that the Polish leader was trying to gain political advantage ahead of the elections scheduled for the fall of 2027.
