White House wants $58 million for security after Kirk killing, Bloomberg reports

The administration of US President Donald Trump has asked Congress to allocate an additional $58 million to strengthen security for the executive and judicial branches following a shooting that killed activist Charlie Kirk, according to Bloomberg.
The funds are intended to be added to a temporary budget, which must be approved by September 30, when the current spending law expires.
The White House also supports the idea of increasing resources for the protection of lawmakers, but the details will be determined by Congress. The shooting at a university event in Utah this week has heightened concerns about the safety of public figures, especially following last year’s assassination attempt on Trump.
Killing of Charlie Kirk
On September 10, at a debate at the University of Utah Valley, an unknown assailant shot and killed well-known conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
According to US media, Kirk had planned to host a dynamic evening of open discussion on conservative values, and the shooting began roughly 20 minutes into his speech. A few hours after being wounded, President Donald Trump announced that Kirk had died.
US law enforcement later launched a manhunt for the shooter. The FBI reported that the weapon used was a bolt-action rifle.
On September 12, authorities arrested 22-year-old student Tyler James Robinson on suspicion of murder. According to Trump, Robinson’s father — a pastor — played a role in convincing his son to surrender.
