White House urges Hungary for swift ratification of Sweden's NATO bid
Hungary needs to quickly complete the ratification of Sweden's application for it to officially become a member of the North Atlantic Alliance, says White House Press Secretary Karin Jean-Pierre.
She emphasizes that the White House welcomes Hungary's decision to ratify Sweden's application to join NATO.
"We would like to welcome Sweden alongside Finland into the NATO alliance very, very soon," the press secretary states.
Jean-Pierre also urges the Hungarian government to quickly complete the process to allow Sweden to join NATO.
Ratification of Sweden's application by Hungary
Today, on February 26, the Hungarian parliament ratified Sweden's application to join NATO.
To complete the ratification process, such a decision must be approved by the Acting President of Hungary, László Kövér. He will have five days to do so.
Afterward, Hungary must send Sweden's application to the U.S. State Department.
