Hungarian parliament gives green light to Sweden's NATO bid
Today, February 26, the Parliament of Hungary ratified Sweden's application to join NATO, according to Index and the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg.
It is noted that on the first day of the spring session, representatives approved the ratification of Sweden's membership in NATO.
188 deputies voted for it, and another six spoke against it. There were no abstainers.
Hungary was the last member state to approve Sweden's application to NATO.
Reaction in NATO
The Secretary-General welcomed the vote of the Hungarian Parliament to ratify Sweden's membership in NATO.
"Now that all Allies have approved, Sweden will become the 32nd NATO Ally," he wrote.
According to him, Sweden's membership will make them all stronger and safer.
Problems of Sweden's accession to NATO
In 2022, after Russia had invaded Ukraine, Sweden applied to join NATO. Türkiye and Hungary were against this decision. Turkey gave its consent.
The other day it became known that the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, had approved the agreement with Stockholm in the defense sphere for Sweden's accession to NATO.
