White House officially confirms authorization for Ukraine's Forces to strike Russia with ATACMS missiles
The White House has officially confirmed permission for the Armed Forces of Ukraine to use ATACMS missiles for strikes against Russia. This decision marks a significant step in supporting Ukraine, states White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby, according to the social media post of senior military reporter for Business Insider, Jake Epstein.
"They are able to use ATACMS to defend themselves in an immediate-need basis and right now, understandably, that's taken place in and around Kursk," Kirby said.
He emphasized that the United States has clarified to the Ukrainian military which specific targets can be struck with American missiles.
"We did change the guidance and gave them guidance that they can use them to strike these particular types of targets," the White House advisor concluded.
Strikes on Russia
Recently, media outlets reported that the US has allowed Ukraine to conduct deep strikes within Russia using long-range ATACMS missiles. This decision was reportedly made in response to North Korean troops joining the war on Russia's side.
RBC-Ukraine reported that Ukraine has already carried out its first strikes on Russian territory using American ATACMS missiles. Moreover, Bloomberg noted that Ukraine also used Storm Shadow missiles for the first time to target a facility in Russia.
It is speculated that the target was a resort of the Russian Presidential Administration in Mariino, Kursk region.
According to media reports, the attack resulted in the deaths of 500 North Korean soldiers and 18 Russian military personnel, including officers.
