White House identifies primary candidate to replace Waltz

Stephen Miller, the US President’s Advisor on Homeland Security, may also become the next National Security Advisor, replacing Mike Waltz, Axios reports.
Miller’s name emerged shortly after President Donald Trump removed Mike Waltz from the role of National Security Advisor on Thursday and nominated him as the next US ambassador to the United Nations.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio is currently serving as acting National Security Advisor, but Axios sources say he is already heavily occupied with managing the State Department.
According to the outlet’s sources, Trump tends to rely on a small circle of trusted advisors, so it wouldn’t be unusual for Miller to hold the positions of Homeland Security Advisor and National Security Advisor.
One source noted that Miller has signaled interest in the role.
However, another source claimed Miller might not want the job "if it takes him away from his true love: immigration policy."
Waltz dismissal
On May 1, US President Donald Trump dismissed Mike Waltz from his position as National Security Advisor. According to the President’s decision, Waltz will become the next US ambassador to the United Nations.
Notably, Waltz’s dismissal came after he accidentally added The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, to a secret Signal chat involving US officials discussing strikes on Yemen.
