Mike Waltz has stepped down from his role as National Security Advisor to US President Donald Trump. His duties will be carried out by Marco Rubio, Trump announced this on Truth Social.

"I am pleased to announce that I will be nominating Mike Waltz to be the next United States Ambassador to the United Nations," Trump wrote.

Trump praised Waltz's work as National Security Advisor, saying he "worked hard to put our Nation’s Interests first."

It is known that Secretary of State Marco Rubio will temporarily assume the duties of National Security Advisor while continuing his role at the State Department.

"Together, we will continue to fight tirelessly to make America, and the world, safe again. Thank you for your attention to this matter," Trump added.

Waltz’s resignation

Earlier today, CBS News, citing sources, reported that Mike Waltz would step down from his position as National Security Advisor to the US President. It was also reported that his deputy, Alex Wong, was planning to resign as well.

They were expected to submit their resignations during the day, although the White House has not yet commented on the rumors.

Waltz recently found himself at the center of a scandal after he accidentally added The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, to a classified Signal chat discussing US strikes on Yemen.
