US President Donald Trump is set to make a statement later today, August 7, in the evening, according to US correspondent Monica Page on Twitter (X).

She shared the schedule of the US President published by the White House. According to it, Trump’s statement for Purple Heart Day (the Purple Heart is one of the most prestigious US military awards ) is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. (11:00 p.m. Kyiv time). The American leader will speak in the East Room of the White House.

What exactly he plans to announce remains unknown.

Sanctions against Russia

August 8 marks the deadline set by US President Donald Trump for Russia. The American leader had pledged that if Russia does not initiate a ceasefire with Ukraine by that date, he would impose secondary sanctions and secondary tariffs on Moscow.

The "last chance" for Russia was the visit of US President’s special representative Steve Witkoff to Moscow on August 6. The American official met with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Following the talks, Trump stated that the negotiations were successful and that significant progress had been made.

However, against this backdrop, rumors began circulating in Western media that Trump still plans to hit Russia with secondary sanctions. Reuters, citing sources, reported that the US is expected to impose secondary sanctions as early as Friday, August 8.

Media outlets have also reported that Trump may tighten sanctions against Russia’s shadow fleet involved in oil exports.
