When will US-Iran fighting end? JD Vance says he doesn't know

US Vice President JD Vance answered a question about the future course of the military campaign against Iran. The Donald Trump administration had previously given much shorter estimates for how long the conflict would last, according to CNN.
The press asked Vance how long Americans should expect the military operations to continue. The vice president did not give a specific timeframe.
"When you ask when this will end, you're asking me a question like when will the Iranians stop shooting at ships? I think the reality is I don't know the answer to that question," he said. "You would have to ask the Iranians."
The question of when the conflict will end has become particularly relevant because the military campaign against Iran has already lasted much longer than the Trump administration's initial estimates suggested.
As CNN notes, the administration initially spoke of approximately four to six weeks. However, by the time Vance made his statement, about six months had already passed since the war began.
Vance himself said that he does not consider the current conflict a war. According to him, the main combat operations ended about six weeks after the campaign began in late March.
At the same time, American military personnel continued to come under attack afterward, with four service members recently killed.
The United States continues operations near the Strait of Hormuz
With no clear timeframe for the end of the conflict, the United States military continues operations in the Strait of Hormuz area.
According to American officials, during the latest escalation, United States forces struck nearly 60 military targets in Iran and escorted 40 commercial oil vessels through the strait. The United States military also attacked Iranian radar systems to make it more difficult for Tehran to track vessel movements.
CNN notes that these operations could continue because, according to United States military assessments, Iran is capable of restoring some of its military capabilities after previous strikes.
