US President Donald Trump may meet with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán as early as the end of next week, Bloomberg reports.
An unnamed source told the outlet that the Trump-Orbán meeting is scheduled for Saturday, November 8.
According to the Bloomberg source, the location of the meeting between the US President and the Hungarian Prime Minister has not yet been determined.
The main topic of discussion will likely be the possibility of Russian oil supplies to Hungary.
Orbán wants to go to Washington
Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said he would visit Washington next week to meet with US President Donald Trump.
Orbán planned the trip after Trump tightened sanctions on Russian oil, targeting Rosneft and Lukoil.
Hungarian officials have repeatedly stated that the country cannot completely abandon Russian oil, as alternative supplies are either expensive or insufficient.
Recently, US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker emphasized that Hungary has not developed any plans to reduce its dependence on Russian oil, unlike neighboring countries.
According to him, Washington expects Budapest to gradually phase out Russian oil and gas. To support this, the US plans to work with Croatia, which could provide alternative supplies to Hungary.
Whitaker also stressed that the US wants Slovakia and Türkiye to abandon Russian energy resources.
