The main focus of the meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his US counterpart Donald Trump will be energy de-escalation, according to an informed source.
"So far, we are not expecting breakthroughs, but the main focus is on energy de-escalation," the source said in response to a question about expectations for the meeting.
Earlier, an RBC-Ukraine source reported that the meeting between the presidents of Ukraine and the US is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22.
According to an informed source, Zelenskyy and Trump are expected to meet in the afternoon or evening Kyiv time.
Zelenskyy said that Ukraine and the US are preparing for a high-level meeting in New York. According to him, the talks could have a significant impact on the further diplomatic track.
Today, Zelenskyy responded to Trump's post by saying that Ukraine is ready to halt strikes on Russian oil refineries if the Kremlin takes corresponding steps toward de-escalation.
In addition, Zelenskyy said that he does not rule out direct talks with the Russian leader. According to him, the key issue should be a concrete outcome of the meeting.
The president stressed that the prospect of such a meeting does not evoke positive emotions in him and that it is "definitely not the best day of my life."
