US President Donald Trump will address the issue of a power plant on the Ukraine-Russia border during his conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The discussion may involve the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, states White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt at a briefing.

Leavitt was asked whether Trump and Putin would discuss the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine during their upcoming conversation. In response, the White House press secretary stated that Trump would discuss "a power plant on the Ukraine-Russia border" with Putin tomorrow.

However, Leavitt did not provide any details about which specific power plant she was referring to. She likely meant the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, the largest nuclear facility in Europe.

Notably, US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are scheduled for a phone conversation on Tuesday, March 18. They are expected to discuss US proposals for a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine.

Situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP

Russian forces seized the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in early March 2022. Since then, the occupiers have failed to follow proper nuclear facility operation protocols, posing risks of potential incidents. They have also stationed both military equipment and personnel at the site.

Since the occupation, the plant has periodically been disconnected from backup power supplies.

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, has stated that the situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP remains unstable due to ongoing shelling.

Recently, US President Donald Trump said that the issue of control over the Zaporizhzhia NPP is being discussed as part of a possible peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia.

Meanwhile, Radio Free Europe correspondent Rikard Jozwiak reported that the IAEA may have conducted its first rotation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP through occupied Ukrainian territories. This likely happened via Russian territory and occupied Crimea.
