We must double our strength over summer. Zelenskyy expects results on air defense at NATO summit
Ukraine needs to double its air defense over the summer. In particular, appropriate assistance from partners is expected at the NATO summit on July 9-11, stated President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy at a meeting of the Presidium of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities.
He said that the first item the government is working on is strengthening air defense. There are already strong results, as today, July 5, the third Patriot air defense system from Germany was put into operation.
"I am grateful to our German partners. We will not discuss where this system will operate and how, but it is very important," the President said.
According to Zelenskyy, he set a task for Ukrainian officials to double the air defense over the summer. This primarily concerns Patriot, Hawk, Iris-T and other systems. There are already first results.
"I hope that the NATO Summit will bring us powerful results. And as we promised, we have to double the air defense system over the summer," Zelenskyy added.
NATO summit and air defense
The NATO anniversary summit will take place in Washington on July 9-11. Leaders are planning to discuss the war in Ukraine and assistance to defend against Russian aggression.
In particular, according to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, there may be news about strengthening Ukraine's air defense before the NATO summit.
Reuters, citing a source in the US State Department, wrote that "good news" on air defense for Ukraine could be announced during the NATO summit.
