Aides to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán are passing detailed reports on European Council meetings to the Kremlin. Information about such cooperation with Russia is not a surprise to European leaders, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated.

Data leaks in Moscow's favor

The Polish prime minister commented on reports that the Hungarian side is providing Moscow with detailed information about internal EU discussions.

According to him, suspicions about such activities have long existed.

"The news that Orbán's people inform Moscow about EU Council meetings in every detail shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. We've had our suspicions about that for a long time," Tusk said.

He also added that due to the risk of information leaks, he tries to remain restrained as much as possible during meetings and speaks only when absolutely necessary.

Hungarian diplomacy informs Moscow

Earlier, The Washington Post reported that Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó regularly provided live reports to the Kremlin directly from European Union meetings. According to journalists, the Hungarian minister called Moscow between sessions to brief the Russian side on the progress of discussions in Brussels.

In addition, reports have emerged about plans by Russian intelligence to stage an assassination attempt on Viktor Orbán ahead of elections in Hungary. The operation aimed to influence the vote and strengthen pro-Russian forces.

At the same time, the Hungarian government strongly rejected these claims, calling the information about the alleged plot "pro-Ukrainian propaganda" and denying any links to plans by Russian intelligence services.
