'We have them by the throat': Bessent predicts swift US deal with Iran

A ceasefire between the US and Iran could be agreed for a period of 30 or 60 days, according to an interview given by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to 12 News AZ.
US to sign deal with Iran soon
According to Bessent, an agreement could be reached within one or two days.
He also repeated President Donald Trump's claims about the destruction of Iran's air force and navy during the US and Israeli military operation. Bessent said Iran is under heavy economic pressure.
"We have them by the throat. And they've got 150, 180% food inflation, not able to pay the troops," Bessent said.
Hopes for an agreement with Iran
In June, the US and Iran agreed on a memorandum for a 60-day ceasefire, during which the sides were supposed to negotiate the terms of a peace deal. Hostilities resumed in early July and continued until the end of the month.
In late July, Trump postponed strikes on Iran's energy infrastructure and announced the resumption of talks.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that a proposed deal between Iran and Oman would give Tehran control over vessels entering the Persian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz.
In addition, on August 5, it was reported that the US, Iran and Oman were close to reaching an interim agreement on reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Washington planned to announce the deal on Wednesday.
On August 4, it also became known that the US and Iran were one step away from a peace agreement if they reached a deal on control over Hormuz.
