US expected to announce Strait of Hormuz deal with Iran today - Axios

At the same time, the deal would satisfy some of Iran's demands for enhanced control over vessel traffic in the strait — measures that were not in place before the war. The document includes the following provisions:

The US, Iran, and Oman are close to reaching an interim agreement to restore operations in the Strait of Hormuz. Washington plans to announce the deal as early as Wednesday, according to Axios.

At the same time, the deal would satisfy some of Iran's demands for enhanced control over vessel traffic in the strait — measures that were not in place before the war. The document includes the following provisions:

• All inbound vessel traffic through the strait into the Persian Gulf will be routed via the northern passage through Iranian waters;
• All outbound traffic through the strait and into the Arabian Sea will pass via the southern route through Omani waters, in coordination with Iran;
• During the 60-day period, no transit fees or other charges will be levied;
• The parties commit to beginning demining operations on the strait's maritime mine separation zone within 30 days;
• Once the separation zone has been cleared, it will be used for inbound and outbound traffic in accordance with the terms of a permanent agreement to be negotiated between Oman and Iran.

According to regional sources, in addition to the Oman-Iran talks, officials from Qatar, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia also acted as mediators.

The White House, for its part, was also actively involved in the negotiations. In recent days, several phone conversations took place between Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, as well as Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi.

Two Iranian officials reported that Araghchi had agreed to the deal over the weekend, but it still required approval from Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei and the Supreme National Security Council.

According to a US official and a regional source, the Iranian leadership finalized the approval process on Tuesday.

Several days ago, US President Donald Trump stated that Iran had a 'last chance' to reach a deal with Washington, emphasizing that the parties were engaged in negotiations.

Additionally, yesterday, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that the parties were one step away from a peace agreement if they could agree on control of the Strait of Hormuz.
