'We got maximum': Zelenskyy on NATO summit results
Ukraine did not receive an invitation to join NATO during the recent summit as it is currently at war. However, in terms of support, the maximum was achieved, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in response to an RBC-Ukraine correspondent's question during a press conference.
"We did not receive at this summit (NATO, - ed.) what Ukraine cannot receive while it's at war. Without populism, without talks, Ukraine will receive an invitation to NATO and NATO membership fast, as soon as the war ends," the president said.
Zelenskyy added that partner countries will be able to extend an invitation to Ukraine to join the Alliance only after the war ends. Specifically, this requires a consolidated decision from all members of the military-political union.
"Therefore, I believe that at this NATO summit, Ukraine received the maximum it could receive," he said.
NATO summit
During the Alliance's summit, held from July 9 to 11 in Washington, Ukraine did not receive an invitation to NATO. However, in the final communiqué, allies said that Ukraine's path to the bloc is "irreversible."
Specifically, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg expressed hope that Ukraine will join the Alliance within the next 10 years.
Following the 75th NATO summit, Ukraine will receive additional air defense systems, F-16 aircraft, and more. Click here for more details.
