Dutch FM on new sanctions: We will increase pressure as long as Russia continues its aggression

The European Union will continue to increase sanctions pressure on Russia as long as it maintains its aggression against Ukraine, Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp said in a post on Twitter (X).
"Russia can stop its war against Ukraine today by sending its soldiers home. Instead, it continues to choose aggression. I therefore welcome the deal on a 17th package of sanctions against Russia, to be agreed upon by EU foreign ministers next week at the Foreign Affairs Council," Veldkamp said.
He noted that the sanctions will target Russia's military-industrial complex, the shadow fleet, and oil exports.
"We are committed to continuing increasing pressure as long as Russia continues its aggression," the Dutch Foreign Minister emphasized.
EU sanctions against Russia
Following the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the EU, the US, and other countries began actively imposing sanctions on Moscow.
The sanctions have targeted the financial sector — including the disconnection of several Russian banks from the SWIFT system, the freezing of the Russian Central Bank's assets, and bans on the export of high-tech goods — as well as personal sanctions against officials, oligarchs, and propagandists. Additional restrictions have been imposed on energy, aviation, transport, the defense industry, and trade.
Today, May 14, the EU approved its 17th package of sanctions against Russia. The new measures include restrictions on 189 more vessels from Russia's shadow fleet.
