A deficiency in certain vitamins may cause swelling and pain in the legs. Some symptoms shouldn’t be ignored, according to the YouTube channel of American doctor Eric Berg.

The doctor highlighted a list of common health symptoms that can arise from vitamin deficiencies.

Numbness in legs

Peripheral neuropathy, often linked to a deficiency in vitamin B1, can manifest as numbness or burning in the feet. A fat-soluble form of vitamin B1 may help alleviate symptoms.

Peripheral neuropathy develops when the nerves of the extremities are damaged. Seek medical advice if there is tingling, loss of sensation, or difficulty maintaining balance.

Bluish toes or fingers

Blue discoloration may indicate overactivity in the sympathetic nervous system. This is often treated medically with calcium channel blockers. Magnesium is a natural blocker and the main regulator of calcium inside cells. Magnesium glycinate is the most absorbable form of magnesium.

Leg cramps

Cramping in the feet or calves could be an early sign of magnesium deficiency. Recommended daily magnesium intake is 270 mg for women and 300 mg for men.

Supplements can be taken, but excessive use can be harmful. Taking high doses of magnesium (more than 400 mg) for a short time can cause diarrhea.

While supplements are an option, a diet rich in spinach, nuts, and whole grains is typically sufficient.

Discolored lower legs and feet

It can often be caused by circulatory problems. Deep vein thrombosis is a condition in which blood clots form in the veins of the lower legs. This can cause fluid retention and discoloration of the legs and feet.

Symptoms may include throbbing pain when walking or standing up, swelling, warm skin around the painful area, red or darkened skin is the painful area, and swollen veins.

If you have these symptoms, you should see a doctor immediately.

Big toe pain

Pain in the big toe is usually a symptom of gout caused by excessive uric acid. Reducing oxalates in the diet can sometimes solve this problem. Magnesium can also help reduce oxalates.
