On the evening of Friday, November 14, a motorcade carrying US Vice President JD Vance was involved in a crash that injured a police officer, ABC News reports.

The crash occurred in Maryville, Tennessee. A police SUV in Vance's motorcade crashed while escorting the vice president.

Officer Justin Brown sustained serious injuries. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition and underwent surgery on Saturday morning.

"To those individuals whose quick response saved FTO Brown's life last night, we could never thank you enough. You are true heroes," Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp said on Saturday.

A US Secret Service representative confirmed to ABC News that Vance was in the motorcade.

"The US Secret Service is closely monitoring a serious traffic incident involving local law enforcement personnel that occurred this evening in Maryville, Tennessee, while they were supporting a protective motorcade movement," said agent Katherine Pierce, adding that "protectees were not impacted by this incident" and expressed condolences.

"Our thoughts are with those officers, their families, and their agencies," Pierce said.

Last month, Vance's motorcade was involved in another incident. During Marine Corps exercises in California, an ordnance explosion sent shrapnel flying, damaging a motorcycle in Vance's motorcade and a highway patrol vehicle.

The Marine Corps immediately suspended live-fire exercises and launched an internal investigation.
