Usyk – Fury: Star promoter finds opponent for winner of rematch
The founder of the promotional company Top Rank, Bob Arum, shared his thoughts on the next opponent for the winner of the second match between Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk and British boxer Tyson Fury, BoxNation reports.
The rematch between Usyk and Fury will take place on December 21 in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. The boxers will enter the ring at the local Kingdom Arena. In the first match, the Ukrainian emerged victorious.
The experienced fight organizer is convinced that IBF champion Daniel Dubois should face the winner of the rematch. According to Arum, the significance of the upcoming fight is substantial, regardless of the winner's last name. At the same time, he believes that a victory for Fury would be a major event for Britain, leading to a subsequent fight between two local fighters at Wembley.
Arum concluded that if Usyk were to win, the event would also be significant due to the controversy surrounding the Ukrainian's victory in the first match against Daniel. He stated that, therefore, the winner should fight Dubois.
What is known about the Usyk – Fury 2 fight
The British fighter activated the rematch option. If Fury refuses to fight, Usyk will have three contenders to replace him. Dubois will be joined by two other heavyweights—Manuel Charr (WBA regular champion) and Joseph Parker (WBO interim champion).
Ukrainian boxers Serhii Bohachuk and Denys Berinchyk will fight on the undercard of the match. The latter will defend his WBO lightweight championship belt against British contender Joe Cordina. The contender was unable to fight American Shakur Stevenson in October.
In the first match, Usyk won by a split decision from the judges. Two out of three judges favored the Ukrainian, scoring it 115:112 and 114:113. One judge scored the fight in favor of Fury (114:113).
It is worth mentioning that Dubois previously scored a spectacular knockout against Joshua in the IBF title bout.
