The US continues to prepare new sanctions relief for Russia, including measures targeting tankers and gas. At the same time, Ukraine is being urged to stop strikes on Russian oil refineries, according to an RBC-Ukraine material titled Ultimatum with no guarantees: Trump squeezes Zelenskyy as Putin braces to make winter brutal for Ukraine.
"This does not depend on the season, but on pressure on Putin or on what he will be given up in return. The Americans do not want to apply pressure and will instead try to make some concessions," a source in the Ukrainian government told the outlet.
According to the source, the Americans are currently demanding that Ukraine stop striking Russian oil refineries without offering anything in return.
"They are preparing new sanctions relief for Russia: on tankers and gas, possibly on some companies and individuals. They are thinking about how to take control of frozen assets," the source added.
Türkiye will receive some of the Russian diesel fuel under a deal between US President Donald Trump and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin.
Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced this, but did not specify how much fuel Ankara would receive.
As RBC-Ukraine reported, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright described Trump and Putin’s diesel deal as an incentive for Russia rather than an economic lifeline.
According to him, Moscow will benefit from the deal only if it reduces domestic diesel consumption, scales back its military efforts, or repairs its oil refineries.
