US unsure of North Korea's troop purpose in Kursk region
Some North Korean troops may appear in Russia’s Kursk region. However, the United States is unaware of the purpose of their arrival, stated White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby.
According to him, it is quite likely that at least some of these North Korean troops could be deployed in the Kursk area but it remains unclear in what capacity and for what purpose.
Prior to this, Kirby stated that the United States did not know how North Korean soldiers would be involved in the war against Ukraine.
"It is possible that there are now more than 3,000 troops from North Korea that have been dispatched to Russia for outfitting and training. On where they're going to go and what they're going to be deployed to do, I don't have firm intelligence assessments," Kirby said.
North Korean soldiers in Russia
North Korea has sent its soldiers to Russia to support the war against Ukraine.
According to Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence, the part of North Korean troops is already in the Kursk direction. Putin stated that this is provided for by the strategic partnership agreement with North Korea.
EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell emphasized that the arms exchange between North Korea and Russia violates a UN resolution.
At the same time, North Korea claims that sending soldiers to Russia for the war against Ukraine complies with international law. However, they do not directly confirm the fact of the deployment of troops.
