US to sell AIM-120 air-to-air missiles to Romania and Norway
The United States has approved the sale of AIM-120 air-to-air missiles to Romania and Norway. The contracts are worth hundreds of millions of dollars, according to the Pentagon's Defense Security Cooperation Agency.
The US Department of State has decided to approve the possible sale of AIM-120 medium-range air-to-air missiles (AMRAAM) and related equipment to the Romanian government. The Agency for Security and Defense Cooperation issued the necessary certification.
the Romanian government asked the United States to purchase 186 AIM-120C-8 medium-range missiles and four guidance sections. The contract also includes auxiliary equipment.
The estimated total cost is $592 million.
The US State Department also authorized the sale of AIM-120 medium-range air-to-air missiles to Norway. The Pentagon's Security and Defense Cooperation Agency provided the necessary certificates.
Norway has requested the purchase of 100 advanced AMRAAM-ER missiles, as well as four AMRAAM AIM-120C-8 guidance sections and related equipment. The contract is worth $405 million.
Earlier, the United States authorized the sale of about 600 missiles for Patriot air defense systems to Germany.
RBC-Ukraine also reported that the United States is ready to provide Ukraine with JASSM air defense missiles for F-16 fighters. According to Politico, a lot of work needs to be done, including establishing whether Ukraine has aircraft that can use JASSM for targets at a distance of about 370 kilometers.
