US to provide Ukraine with anti-personnel mines – Austin
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced that the United States will send anti-personnel mines to Ukraine. The decision comes in response to a shift in Russian tactics, according to The Guardian.
Austin's statement officially confirmed media reports that President Joe Biden had authorized the supply of anti-personnel mines to Ukraine.
According to the Pentagon chief, Russian ground forces, rather than armored vehicles, currently dominate the battlefield. As a result, Ukraine needs "things that can help slow down that effort on the part of the Russians."
"The land mines that we would look to provide them would be land mines that are not persistent, you know, we can control when they would self-activate, self-detonate and that makes it, you know, far more, safer eventually than the things that they are creating on their own,” Austin said.
Authorization for strikes with long-range weapons against Russia
The White House has authorized Ukraine to use long-range weapons for strikes on Russian territory. Earlier, it was reported that Ukraine could use ATACMS missiles to strike the Kursk region.
On the night of November 19, the 1,000th day of the war, Ukraine struck the 67th arsenal of the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Russia in Bryansk. The attack caused a fire at the site. Western media confirmed this was the first use of ATACMS missiles by Ukraine on Russian territory.
Additionally, media reported today that President Biden has authorized the supply of anti-personnel mines to Ukraine. This decision should strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities against the advancing advancing Russian forces.
