President Donald Trump warned federal workers that they would be fired if they oppose the policies of his administration. He also stated that the era of unelected bureaucrats is over, according to the broadcast of Trump's speech in the Congress.

Citing his “mandate for bold and profound change,” the president spoke out against regulations and approval of debt obligations that slow down the operations of the federal government.

He stated that “hundreds of thousands of federal workers… have not been showing up to work,” as his administration ordered the cancellation of COVID-era rules that provided more flexibility.

“My administration will reclaim power from this unaccountable bureaucracy, and we will restore true democracy to America again. And any federal bureaucrat who resists this change will be removed from office immediately. Because we are draining the swamp. It’s very simple. And the days of rule by unelected bureaucrats are over,” Trump said.

Federal Government Personnel reform

At the end of January, the administration of President Donald Trump established the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), which was led by billionaire Elon Musk.

The agency’s task was to reduce the number of civil servants, which in the US amounts to 2.2 million people.

In particular, Trump sent letters to federal employees demanding that they immediately resign and receive their salary by September 2025. Most employees boycotted this demand.

Additionally, the president initiated a process to bring government employees, who had been working remotely from home, back to their offices.

Furthermore, federal employees who were not dismissed were required to send reports about the work they had completed during the past week.
