US targets underground Houthi weapon depots in Yemen
American forces have struck Houthi depots in Yemen where advanced weaponry was being stored. The depots were located underground, US Central Command reports.
“US Central Command (CENTCOM) forces conducted multiple precision strikes against two Iranian-backed Houthi underground Advanced Conventional Weapon (ACW) storage facilities within Houthi-controlled territories of Yemen, Jan. 8,” the Central Command reported.
According to the command, the Houthis used weapons from these depots to attack US Navy warships and commercial vessels in the southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
Central Command emphasized that this attack is part of efforts to prevent Iranian-backed Houthis from threatening regional partners, as well as military and commercial vessels in the area.
Houthi attacks
It is worth noting that the Houthis have long been attacking military ships and civilian vessels in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea. These strikes have become a "response" by the militants to Israel's war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Additionally, the Houthis have recently carried out multiple attacks on Israel. For instance, on December 21, it was reported that 16 civilians in Tel Aviv were injured after one such attack.
In response, Israel struck Houthi targets in Yemen. Israel's ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, warned that the Houthis would face the same fate as Hezbollah and Hamas.
