US President Joe Biden condemned North Korea's decision to send its troops to Russia to assist in the war against Ukraine during a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Lima, Peru. The American leader criticized the actions of Pyongyang, according to the White House.

During their conversation, the leaders of both countries exchanged views on key regional and global challenges.

"President Biden condemned the deployment of thousands of DPRK troops to Russia, a dangerous expansion of Russia’s unlawful war against Ukraine with serious consequences for both European and Indo-Pacific peace and security," the White House stated.

The American president also expressed deep concern over China’s ongoing support for Russia's defense-industrial base.

Additionally, Biden emphasized the United States' commitment to upholding international law, freedom of navigation and flight, and "peace and stability in the South China Sea and East China Sea."

"On Taiwan, President Biden underscored that the United States’ one China policy remains unchanged, guided by the Taiwan Relations Act, the three Joint Communiques, and the Six Assurances," the White House reported.

Biden reaffirmed that the US opposes "any unilateral changes to the status quo from either side" and expects "cross-Strait differences to be resolved by peaceful means and that the world has an interest in peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait."

The US president also called for an end to "destabilizing PRC military activity around Taiwan."

Earlier, Western media reported that President Biden was set to discuss with China North Korea's involvement in the Russia-Ukraine war on the side of the Kremlin and the deepening ties between Moscow and Pyongyang.

Chinese leader Xi Jinping assured President Biden during their meeting of Beijing's readiness to work with US President-elect Donald Trump's administration.

Additionally, ahead of the meeting between Biden and Xi Jinping, the US, Japan, and South Korea strongly condemned Russia and North Korea’s violations of multiple UN Security Council resolutions.
