US Senate holds meeting with delegation from Ukraine's anti-corruption agencies
On Wednesday, December 4, staff members of the US Senate Committee on Appropriations held a meeting with a Ukrainian delegation. The delegation included representatives from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU), the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP), and the High Anti-Corruption Court, reports US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink.
The meeting focused on issues of transparency and the effective use of financial aid provided by the US to Ukraine. Additionally, the ambassador emphasized the importance of the independence of Ukraine's anti-corruption bodies for this process.
"Ukraine’s commitment to the independence of its anti-corruption institutions helps ensure accountability of US foreign assistance," summarized Bridget Brink.
On Tuesday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that America plans to fully allocate the $61 billion in aid to Ukraine approved by Congress. This will cover the period until the end of President Joe Biden's term, with the funds being directed towards weapons supply.
He also mentioned that, in the coming weeks, Ukraine will receive the first tranches of funds from the $50 billion in frozen Russian assets.
