US Secretary of State congratulated Moldova on Independence Day
US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, greeted Moldova on its Independence Day, which is celebrated annually on August 27, and thanked Chisinau for its support of Ukraine in repelling Russia's full-scale military aggression, according to the US State Department.
"On behalf of the United States of America, I extend a warm congratulations to Moldova and its people on 32 years of independence from the Soviet Union.... Today, August 27, we celebrate Moldova and offer best wishes for a healthy and prosperous year ahead. Happy Independence Day.," the US official stated.
Blinken noted that the United States appreciates Moldova's shared commitment to "strengthen democratic institutions and judicial reforms, foster economic growth, enhance its security, and promote respect for human rights."
Washington hopes to continue this partnership through the US-Moldova strategic dialogue and to support the country on its path toward EU integration, he added.
"We are also grateful for Moldova’s unwavering support for its neighbor, Ukraine, in addressing the impacts of Russia’s war of aggression, and commend the Moldovan people’s efforts to welcome hundreds of thousands of refugees," Blinken emphasized.
The support of Ukraine by Moldova
Recently, in August, Moldovan President Maia Sandu stated that Chisinau wants to help Ukraine with grain transit. She mentioned that the country is trying to find a solution that would satisfy local farmers and assist the Ukrainian side.
President Sandu also emphasized that Moldova will continue to provide assistance to Ukraine, despite threats from Russia.
Earlier, Moldova declared that it had reached a defining moment that would determine the country's future. They believe that Russia will continue to be a source of instability for the country.
It was also reported that the Moldovan government recently prepared a draft resolution on providing further humanitarian aid to Ukraine in connection with the disaster caused by the destruction of the Kakhovska hydroelectric power station by Russian occupiers.
