US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in an interview with MSNBC, stated that nuclear threats from Russian dictator Vladimir Putin are "irresponsible" and that the world needs more disarmament.

Blinken condemned Putin's recent statements to the West regarding nuclear weapons, calling them "irresponsible" and untimely. He specifically reminded that many in the world have been "rattling the nuclear saber."

"I think many in the world have spoken clearly about that when he's been rattling the nuclear sabre - including China, in the past. So I would just say especially to do that now, while the world's gathered... talking about the need for more disarmament, non-proliferation," Blinken said.

Background

Recently, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin once again referred to the use of nuclear weapons. Specifically, he announced changes to Russia’s nuclear doctrine, with plans to expand the conditions under which their nuclear arsenal could be used.

Putin stated that this doctrine allows Russia to carry out a nuclear strike in response to aggression from any non-nuclear state if such aggression involves or is supported by a nuclear state.
