US resumes arms supplies to Ukraine, after brief delay - Reuters
In recent days, the United States has suspended arms supplies to Ukraine. However, they were resumed this past weekend, Reuters informs.
As the media outlet reports, the supplies were resumed after the Trump administration discussed its policy regarding Kyiv. In particular, after the White House abandoned its initial assessment of halting all assistance to Ukraine.
According to one of Reuters' sources, there are factions within the Trump administration that disagree on the extent to which the US should continue providing military aid to Kyiv from American stockpiles.
Since Donald Trump assumed office as President of the United States, no aid packages for Ukraine have been announced. However, it was believed that supplies authorized by Joe Biden would continue — and continue for months — due to delays in implementation.
But the brief pause in supplies is the first external sign of the intensity of debates within the Trump administration. Trump's team still has not received a clear signal about whether it will continue providing substantial military aid to Ukraine.
US assistance to Ukraine
The United States remains the largest donor of military aid to Ukraine, providing modern weaponry, including HIMARS, Patriot, Bradley, Abrams, and ATACMS. In addition, Washington supports Ukraine financially, humanitarianly, and with sanctions against Russia.
In 2024, assistance has been delayed due to disagreements in Congress between Democrats and Republicans regarding its scale and terms, slowing the adoption of new support packages.
In early January 2025, former Deputy Spokesperson for the Pentagon's head, Sabrina Singh, stated that the administration of US President Joe Biden would not be able to implement the entire amount under the aid funding approved by Congress in 2024.
Meanwhile, today US President Donald Trump stated that his country may continue aid to Ukraine in exchange for Ukrainian rare earth metals. Washington is also working on guarantees for Ukraine.
