US reportedly prepares $400 million military aid to Ukraine after extended break
The United States is preparing a new package of military aid to Ukraine totaling $400 million. It could become the first in 2024, according to Reuters.
It is noted that this is the first such step by the United States in several months, as additional funds for Ukraine, as before, are being blocked by Republican leaders in Congress.
Officials speaking on condition of anonymity stated that the announcement of military aid is expected later on Tuesday.
The new package of military aid to Ukraine could reach $400 million.
US assistance to Ukraine
For several months now, the US Congress has been unable to approve new funding for aid to Ukraine to continue supplying weapons and more. This situation is due to the disagreement between Republicans and Democrats over border security, funding for which is included in the aid package for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.
Recently, the Senate passed a separate bill with funds for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. For it to take effect, the document still needs to be approved by the House of Representatives and signed by President Joe Biden.
As CNN writes, the House of Representatives may vote on financial assistance to Ukraine at the end of March or in April.
The US is seeking ways to provide assistance to Ukraine
It was recently reported that the Pentagon was considering whether to use the last remaining source of military aid funding to support Ukraine's military efforts, even without guarantees that these funds would be reimbursed by Congress.
Later, it became known that the administration of President Joe Biden was considering mobilizing around $200 million from the US Army's funding to provide immediate support to Ukraine.
