US ready to help Ukraine manage power plants and nuclear facilities – White House

President Donald Trump, during a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, discussed the issue of power plants and nuclear power plants in Ukraine. He noted that the United States could help Ukraine manage them, according to a statement from White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt.
According to Leavitt, Trump told Zelenskyy that the United States could provide significant assistance to Ukraine in operating these plants by leveraging its expertise in the energy and utilities sector.
The US president also added that the best form of assistance could be "American ownership of the facilities."
"American ownership of those plants would be the best protection for that infrastructure and support for the Ukrainian energy infrastructure," Leavitt stated.
Ceasefire and power plant issues
Earlier, Trump stated that he would also discuss Ukrainian "power plants" with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Presumably, this refers in particular to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which remains under Russian occupation.
The US president also previously revealed that during negotiations in Saudi Arabia, US and Ukrainian representatives addressed the issue of control over the Zaporizhzhia NPP after the war. According to Trump, many details of the final peace agreement have already been discussed, including those related to the plant.
Situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP
Russian forces seized the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in early March 2022. The plant is periodically disconnected from backup power supplies.
The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, believes that the situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP remains unstable due to ongoing shelling.
