The United States wants peace in Ukraine after the ceasefire to be ensured not only by the European military. In particular, they propose to involve peacekeepers from China and Brazil, The Economist reports.

US officials are proposing a peacekeeping mission that would include non-European countries, such as Brazil or China. These forces could be deployed along a future ceasefire line. It would serve as a buffer zone.

US Vice President J.D. Vance allegedly told European allies that a European contingent alone would be less effective in deterring Russia from new attacks.

A contingent of peacekeepers from Brazil or China could complement the military personnel from European countries, including France. Earlier, the French authorities proposed a European mission that would remain far behind the front line. Thus, the military should provide support to Ukraine, without necessarily being involved in possible future hostilities.

However, it is well known that Russia opposes any deployment of foreign troops in Ukraine. Therefore, Donald Trump's administration will have to force Vladimir Putin to make concessions, The Economist concludes.

Britain has announced its readiness to send its military to Ukraine after peace is reached. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced that he is willing to deploy troops to Ukraine to ensure the implementation of any peace agreement. The United Kingdom is ready to take this step, despite the possible danger to its soldiers.

Sweden also does not rule out the possibility of sending peacekeeping troops to Ukraine. The country can help maintain a sustainable peace. According to Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard, Swedish peacekeepers could be sent to Ukraine if the need arises.
