US President Donald Trump stated that Europe will be heavily involved in the security guarantees for Ukraine, being considered as part of the US peace plan to end the war, according to a White House broadcast.

Trump was asked about security guarantees and Ukraine’s potential NATO membership, to which he responded that the issue is currently being worked out with Europe.

“We're working that out with Europe. Europe really wants to see it end if possible,” said the US president.

U.S. peace plan and Geneva negotiations

The US presented Kyiv with a peace plan to end the war with Russia, consisting of 28 points. It included, among other things, territorial concessions to Moscow, a veto on NATO membership, and a reduction of the Ukrainian army. At the same time, Russia was reportedly ready to provide so-called security guarantees to Ukraine and Europe, preventing the possibility of a future invasion.

This version was developed by the American and Russian sides and provoked outrage in both Kyiv and Europe. As a result, recent negotiations took place in Geneva involving the Ukrainian, European, and American delegations.

The parties concluded that the peace plan would be approved by Ukraine beyond the US-set deadline of November 27. The plan was reportedly revised and reduced to 19 points, with territorial concessions and the army reduction removed.

Regarding security guarantees, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that Ukraine needs reliable guarantees, not paper guarantees.

He also reminded that previous promises had been broken by Russia’s successive aggressions.

The Kremlin, for its part, said that if the peace plan does not meet the conditions outlined by Russian leader Vladimir Putin to Trump in Alaska, Moscow will not accept it.
