US plans to send $780M in Javelin missiles and launchers to Poland

The US State Department has approved a potential foreign military sale of Javelin missile systems to the Polish government for a total value of approximately $780 million, according to the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) website.
The Polish government requested to purchase 2,506 FGM-148F Javelin missiles and 253 Javelin Lightweight Command Launch Units.
The package will also include the following auxiliary equipment and services:
- Training and simulation missiles.
- Battery cooling units.
- Tool kits.
- Spare parts.
- Training and technical assistance from the U.S. government and contractors.
- Transportation and other logistics and software support elements.
The total estimated value of the assistance is $780 million.
“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by improving the security of a NATO Ally that is a force for political and economic stability in Europe,” the statement reads.
The Pentagon also noted that the sale of this equipment will improve Poland’s ability to counter current and future threats by modernizing its existing, outdated launchers and expanding its defensive arsenal.
“The proposed sale will improve Poland’s capability to meet current and future threats by upgrading its existing legacy Command Launch Units and increasing its defense inventory, thereby reinforcing its capability to protect Polish sovereign territory and improving its ability to meet NATO requirements. Poland will have no difficulty absorbing these articles and services into its armed forces,” DSCA added.
The main contractors will be RTX Corporation and Lockheed Martin.
The agency clarified that the proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region.
“Implementation of this proposed sale will not require the assignment of any additional U.S. Government or contractor representatives to Poland. There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale,” the Pentagon added.
US military aid
On August 30, the US State Department approved the sale of Starlink satellite communication services and equipment to Ukraine for $150 million, as well as Patriot air defense systems for $179.1 million.
In addition, the US approved military assistance to Ukraine worth $825 million. The package includes over 3,000 ERAM missiles and a batch of GPS/INS modules.
Furthermore, two out of four US military aid packages under the Ukraine Priority Urgent Requirements List (PURL) program are already en route to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
