US military destroys threatening Houthi drone
In the last 24 hours, the US military forces successfully destroyed a Houthi drone that posed a threat to coalition military operations, according to the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
The drone was launched over the Red Sea from areas controlled by Yemen's Houthis.
"It was determined this system presented an imminent threat to US and coalition forces, and merchant vessels in the region. This action was taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure for US, coalition, and merchant vessels," the US military officials reported.
Attacks of Yemen's Houthis
Since the onset of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the Iranian-backed Houthi group in Yemen has begun regularly targeting commercial vessels transiting through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and the Red Sea.
In August, the US military forces destroyed two vessels linked to Yemeni terrorists.
In early September, the Houthis fired upon several oil tankers owned by Greece.
In mid-September, the Houthis launched a missile that reached central Israel but was intercepted by air defense forces.
