US military destroys two Houthi vessels in Red Sea
US military forces have neutralized two vessels belonging to Yemeni Houthi militants in the Red Sea, reports the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
In a statement, the US military department reported that the operation took place over the past 24 hours on August 13.
"Over the last 24 hours, U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) successfully destroyed two Iranian-backed Houthi vessels in the Red Sea," the post states.
According to the US side, the vessels posed an imminent and direct threat to US and coalition forces, as well as to commercial shipping in the region.
CENTCOM did not specify the class or type of the destroyed Houthi vessels.
"This reckless and dangerous behavior by Iranian-backed Houthis continues to threaten regional stability and security," the US agency added.
US and allies' operation in the Red Sea due to Houthi attacks on ships
The US has frequently reported the destruction of drones, missiles, and other weaponry belonging to Yemeni Houthis. However, the recent announcement regarding the destruction of Houthi vessels marks a rare instance.
It's important to note that the Western coalition, including the US, the UK, and their allies, targets Houthi forces and assets due to attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
Earlier, on July 13, US forces destroyed several Houthi drones in Yemen. On July 24, it was reported that American troops had eliminated three missile launchers in a Houthi-controlled area of Yemen.
Additionally, at the beginning of August, the US announced the destruction of several surface drones belonging to the Houthis in the Red Sea.
