Tariffs imposed by the US on Mexico and Canada could increase. President Donald Trump indicated when this might happen, informs CNN.

On Thursday, Trump signed executive orders delaying tariffs on all goods from Mexico and Canada covered by the USMCA free trade agreement until April 2. However, he noted that tariffs could rise after that date.

"The tariffs could go up as time goes by. They may go up," Trump said.

President Trump also downplayed recent stock market fluctuations triggered by his tariff decisions. He defended his strategy, emphasizing that some tariffs could increase as early as next month.

Trump, who often points to market growth as evidence of his success, said this time that it should not be the main focus. According to him, short-term fluctuations matter less than building a strong economy for the future.

"If you look at China, they have a 100-year perspective. We have a quarter. We go by quarters. … And you can’t go by that. You have to do what’s right. We’re building a tremendous foundation for the future," he said.

Earlier, Trump postponed the introduction of additional tariffs on car imports from Canada and Mexico. He activated a 30-day delay for vehicle-related goods covered by the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
