At the UN, the US called for an immediate ceasefire and the resumption of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia to achieve long-term peace, says US representative Dan Negrea during a UN Security Council meeting.

According to the American diplomat, the entire world continues to pay a high price for the war. He emphasizes that numerous casualties could have been avoided if Moscow had responded to calls to end the conflict.

"Far too much blood has been spilled. The world is paying a heavy price because of this war It must end. The United States renews its call for an immediate ceasefire. And for Russia and Ukraine to negotiate in good faith. A durable resolution of this war," Negrea says.

The US representative emphasizes that Washington is ready to play an active role in a diplomatic settlement and to facilitate dialogue between Kyiv and Moscow.

"The United States remains prepared to play a constructive role to achieve that outcome, and to facilitate talks between Moscow and Kyiv. Our commitment to peace in Ukraine is unwavering," the diplomat adds.

The day before, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that Moscow had allegedly never refused to discuss proposals and ideas regarding ending the war against Ukraine and remains ready for such a dialogue now as well.

At the same time, she emphasized that the United States must clarify the issue of the Anchorage agreements before proposing new initiatives.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reported that in August 2025, US President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin discussed Russian proposals for resolving the war in Ukraine.

According to Rubio, it was the Ukrainian side that rejected the approach promoted by Moscow.

In addition, on July 23, Marco Rubio held talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. One of the key topics of the meeting was the war in Ukraine.

Following the talks, Lavrov called for an end to Western arms supplies to Ukraine, making this demand to Kyiv’s allies.
