US imposes new sanctions on Iran: more than 40 individuals targeted

The US Department of State has announced additional sanctions in support of UN restrictions against Iran over its refusal to halt nuclear weapons development, according to an official statement by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
"Today, we are designating 44 individuals and entities involved in Iran’s nuclear program and weapons procurement networks supporting ballistic missile and military aircraft programs," the statement reads.
Rubio noted that the US is imposing sanctions on five individuals and one organization linked to the Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research (SPND), regarded as the direct successor to Iran’s pre-2004 nuclear program.
The statement added that some of those sanctioned "have sought to obtain sensitive dual-use technologies and technical expertise applicable to nuclear weapons development."
"The actions announced today show that Iran is actively attempting to procure components and technologies in support of its proliferation programs," Rubio said in the statement.
Continuation of sanctions against Iran
A few days ago, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced that the country would not withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
In response, on September 27, the United Nations reinstated its arms embargo and other sanctions against Iran that had originally been imposed by the UN Security Council between 2006 and 2010.
The UK government also introduced sanctions against dozens of Iranian individuals and organizations.
Meanwhile, Iran is accelerating construction of an underground facility near the Natanz nuclear complex, a site that has never been visited by international inspectors.
