UK targets Iran-linked individuals and organizations with new sanctions

The UK government has imposed sanctions on dozens of individuals and organizations linked to Iran as part of efforts to curb Tehran’s nuclear weapons program, Reuters reports.
The UK added 71 new entries to its Iran sanctions list, including senior officials of Iran’s nuclear program and key financial and energy institutions.
The assets of individuals and organizations targeted by the sanctions are frozen in the UK. They also face financial restrictions and travel bans to Britain.
Sanctions against Iran
Earlier today, September 29, the EU Council decided to reimpose a series of restrictions on Iran due to its nuclear program. These sanctions had previously been suspended in 2015.
The restored restrictions include travel bans and asset freezes for individuals and legal entities, economic and financial sanctions, trade restrictions on petroleum products, gas, precious metals, and certain equipment, as well as an arms export ban.
Yesterday, the United Nations reinstated the arms supply embargo and other sanctions against Iran.
UN sanctions, adopted by the Security Council in resolutions in 2006 and 2010, have come back into force. Attempts to delay their renewal failed during this week’s annual meeting of world leaders at the UN.
