The White House said that the United States is considering various scenarios for establishing control over Greenland, including a military option, according to Reuters.

A White House official, commenting to the media, said that Greenland is viewed in Washington as a key element of US national security.

According to the official, the President, together with his team, is analyzing various pathways to achieve this foreign policy objective, and the use of US armed forces, if necessary, remains within the commander-in-chief’s authority.

At the same time, the official stressed that statements by NATO leaders in support of Greenland have not influenced the position of Donald Trump. He added that the President’s desire to acquire the island remains, including throughout the remainder of his three-year term.

The White House representative уточнив that active discussions are underway in the Oval Office on possible mechanisms for gaining control over Greenland, with several alternative approaches under consideration.

These include purchasing the island or concluding a Free Association Agreement. However, the latter option, the official said, does not meet Trump’s goal of integrating Greenland directly into the United States.

The official emphasized that the President prefers diplomatic methods and is inclined toward negotiations, viewing a mutually beneficial deal to purchase Greenland as the best option.

Trump's claims on Greenland

Earlier, Stephen Miller, Deputy White House Chief of Staff, said that Greenland should become part of the United States as an element of America’s security system and did not rule out the use of force.

Before that, Miller’s wife, Katie Miller, posted a map on social media showing Greenland colored in the US flag.

Donald Trump sought to buy Greenland toward the end of his first term, but Denmark rejected the proposal, just as it had decades earlier. After returning to the White House in 2025, Trump again said the United States must establish control over the island "for security reasons."
