White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller said that Greenland should become part of the United States as an element of the US security system, and did not rule out a military takeover of the island, according to his comments to CNN.
White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller asserted that the formal position of the Trump administration is that "Greenland should be part of the United States," but he rejected that military force would be necessary to acquire it.
"Nobody’s gonna fight the United States militarily over the future of Greenland," Miller said.
When directly asked whether military intervention was being ruled out, Stephen Miller avoided a clear answer and instead questioned Denmark’s claims to the Arctic territory.
"What is the basis of their territorial claim? What is their basis of having Greenland as a colony of Denmark? The United States is the power of NATO. For the United States to secure the Arctic region, to protect and defend NATO and NATO interests, obviously, Greenland should be part of the United States, and so that’s a conversation that we’re going to have as a country," Miller concluded.
