Katie Miller, the wife of US President Donald Trump's homeland security adviser Stephen Miller, posted a map of Greenland on the social media platform X, where the island is colored in the American flag's colors.

Under the map, Trump's adviser's wife left a brief caption: "Soon."

The American publication The Daily Beast notes that Miller's post was likely a reaction to news that the US military had successfully carried out an operation to capture Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro.

Miller's post was criticized by Denmark’s ambassador to the United States, Jesper Møller Sørensen.

"Just a friendly reminder about the US and the Kingdom of Denmark: We are close allies and should continue to work together as such. US security is also Greenland's and Denmark’s security. Greenland is already part of NATO. The Kingdom of Denmark and the United States work together to ensure security in the Arctic. The Kingdom of Denmark has significantly boosted its Arctic security efforts - in 2025 alone, we committed USD 13,7 bn that can be used in the Arctic and North Atlantic. Because we take our joint security seriously. And yes, we expect full respect for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark," he wrote on the social media platform X.

Trump's interest in Greenland

As a reminder, US President Donald Trump attempted to purchase Greenland at the end of his first term, but Denmark refused, as it had done 80 years earlier.

Upon returning to the White House in 2025, he again stated that the US should establish control over the island for security reasons.

Earlier reports noted that Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen accused Trump's circle in August 2025 of attempting to interfere in Greenland's political processes.

In October, she said that the US president had apparently cooled on the topic but could return to it again.

Additionally, Denmark has strengthened the island's defense following Trump’s renewed claims.

In December, Trump announced the appointment of Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as a special representative for Greenland.
