About the US elections
On November 3, 2026, the Democratic Party won control of both chambers of Congress—the Senate and the House of Representatives—in the midterm elections.
Democrats also won in several states that have traditionally supported Republicans, including Kansas, Texas, Iowa, and South Carolina.
One of the most notable results was James Talarico's victory in the Texas Senate race. He became the first Democrat in nearly 40 years to win a Senate seat from the state.
Kansas elected a Democrat, Adam Hamilton, for the first time since 1932, while Michigan sent Abdul El-Sayed to the Senate, making him the first Muslim ever elected to the chamber from the state.
Democrats also secured several historic victories in gubernatorial races:
-
Gina Hinojosa became Texas's first Latina governor.
-
Keisha Lance Bottoms became Georgia's first Black woman governor.
-
Deb Haaland became the first Indigenous woman to hold the office in New Mexico.
