US could be a game-changer: Ukrainian analyst explains when Trump might pressure Russia

US President Donald Trump will ultimately be forced to apply pressure on Russia — and that could happen within a month, according to Ukrainian political analyst Oleh Saakian.
According to Saakian, at some point the situation in the United States will "boil over," and Trump will have no choice but to exert pressure on Russia. This could happen within a month — or even sooner.
"Optimistically, I'd say the end of May and into June — most likely even by mid-June — is the period when we could see the first instance of either tougher sanctions on Russia, increased pressure, or stronger US support for Ukraine," Saakian noted.
The political analyst pointed out that Trump had previously provided weapons to Ukraine, including the anti-tank missile system, FGM-148 Javelin.
"If he sees that all alternative scenarios pose greater risks to him, he will take this path — because there simply won't be any other viable options," the analyst believes.
US sanctions against Russia
Earlier, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the United States and Europe would significantly tighten sanctions on Russia if Moscow fails to engage in peace talks with Ukraine "in good faith."
Trump himself has said that Washington will move forward with sanctions against Russia if negotiations with Ukraine collapse. According to him, the sanctions would be devastating for Moscow.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also noted that Washington had given Moscow time to make progress in the talks — but that patience is running out.
