The United States is considering providing Ukraine with missiles for the Patriot air defense systems, which Kyiv needs to defend against enemy rockets, US President Donald Trump said during a conversation with journalists aboard Air Force One.

"They're going to need them (Patriot missiles - ed.) for defense. I don’t want to see people killed. They (Patriot missiles) are amazingly effective. You know, we knock down 14 out of 14 (targets - ed.). That’s really amazing, if you think about it," said the US president.

Trump also emphasized that the missiles are necessary for Ukraine because the country has suffered heavily from Russian attacks.

Answering a question about whether the United States plans to provide these missiles to Ukraine, he said that the matter would be considered.

Trump added that the transfer of missiles is being considered.

Trump and Zelenskyy conversation

Recall that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump held a phone conversation yesterday, July 4.

According to Zelenskyy, he agreed with Trump on strengthening the defense of Ukraine’s skies against Russian attacks. Also, the head of state said they agreed on a corresponding meeting between the US and Ukrainian teams.

It is worth noting that this conversation took place against the backdrop of a suspension of weapons supplies to Ukraine from the United States. In particular, this decision affected Patriot missiles.

Earlier, the American outlet Axios reported, citing unnamed sources, that the conversation lasted about 40 minutes and that Trump told Zelenskyy he would check which American weapons scheduled for shipment to Ukraine, if any, had been postponed.
